Hi, I'm Linda

My name is Linda S. Ross and I was born and raised in Richmond County.

EDUCATION:

I completed elementary school to 7th grade in Richmond county. I completed High School at Dunbar in Baltimore Maryland. I attended Coppin State College and completed my Associate Degree in Criminal Justice at Richmond Community College. I also completed my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at UNC Pembroke, as well as completed my bachelor’s degree in Theology from Lighthouse Christian College Beebe, Arkansas.

OCCUPATIONS:

I worked at Sara Lee in Rockingham, for 3 years before working for the Department of Corrections in which I retired with 28 years of service, and 2 years of sick leave a total of 30 years. I began that career at Morrison Correctional Institution as a Correctional Officer, supervising a dorm housing up to 60 felons. Promoted through the ranks from officer to Sergeant, to Assistant Unit Manger to Correctional Lieutenant. During that time my duties consist of, supervisor of approximately 30 officers and monitored the daily activities of the staff and inmates, completed daily inspections, investigations and resolve conflicts with staff and inmates. The supervisor for 1st ,2nd and 3rd shifts, approx. 6 Sergeants and 30 officers. This included Segregation and Mental Health inmates.  Overseeing the daily operation of the facility, checking the security alarms daily, transport of inmates coming in and going out, staff assessments, investigations, and enforcing the rules and regulations. Lateral Promotion from Custody to Programs as Classification Coordinator, in this position I researched the inmate’s history, I made recommendations that determined if the inmate promoted from medium custody to minimum custody or demoted to close custody.

CERTIFICATIONS:

I received certification through the department as a Correctional Instructor, certified in Firearms, Unarmed Self-defense, long, short and expandable Baton, Pepper Spray and Rope course instructor. Certified instructor for Sexual Harassment, First Aid and CPR

Training Coordinator for Brown Creek, set up the Armory’s test fired the weapons, established the filing systems and forms.

IMPORTANT FACTS:

Retired from (OSDT) the Office of Staff Development and Training as a Correctional Training II. Received The Old North State Award, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine for serve in North Carolina.

I have traveled to Soviet Union Russia, London, Birmingham, United Kingdom in England of Great Britain, in which I received a Certificate as an Instructor from Gospel Express Academy.

Presently, I serve as the Pastor of Faith Assembly Outreach Ministries for 20 years and Impact Community Outreach Center in Laurinburg.

The church sponsors a Soup Kitchen and Pantry, which is supported by The Foodbank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Healthy Pantry, Restoring Hope Ministry, in Laurinburg. Food Lion and Aldi of Rockingham.

I am very active in the community supporting any area necessary, whether spiritual, physical, or natural.   

I Presently serve as Chair for Scotland County Reentry and very pleased with the experience.
